After Mark had created a rescue strategy for the safe return of the ‘Childhood’ table, he turned to the Ayrshire Post and three other sister newspapers who were delighted to throw their full backing behind the campaign. With the story running in the local paper, support for Mark mounted and the hotel soon realised they were not going to win this battle. After weeks of campaigning, the hotel’s General Manager finally agreed to release the table to Mark.
At 3pm on 12th December, the table emerged from the hotel’s entrance and into the hands of Mark who was overjoyed. Several of the hotel staff who had recognised Mark from his previous visits to check on his table, told him that they had been taking care of ‘Childhood’ all this time. Mark was please that he thanked them and gifted them with champagne.
Mark said “This is a happy day for the hippo and for me and I am taking him home. I am delighted the hotel acted so quickly after seeing the story in the Post and thank them for not drawing this out into court.”
The table was safely returned to Mark’s home and we are pleased to say that nothing of the sort has happened since (thank goodness). The story just goes to show how sought-after Mark’s tables are - people will go to extreme lengths to acquire one, so we’ll take it as a compliment. You can read the original article here
